Object Theater & the Power of the Inanimate

Mondays, 7pm-10pm; September 24th – October 29th

$200 tuition for 6-week workshop

Applying concepts of object work and basic puppetry manipulation to the non-illusory work of the Neo-Futurists, this class will guide you in combining imagery and language to explore the potential of the inanimate object in your devised work. John Pierson and Dan Kerr-Hobert will introduce you to a Neo-Futurist style they both nurture in their performances. It is an exciting style that will help make you comfortable turning inanimate objects into vehicles in which to express your thoughts in new and interesting ways. You should take this class if you are interested in physical, active theatre, puppetry, and the Neo-Futurist aesthetic.

Over the course of 6 weekly 3-hour sessions, students will write from their own life experiences. You will learn to harness these stories into complex menageries of images and manipulated objects that challenge your audience to engage along with you. The experience will enhance the meaning, the drama, the humor, and the beauty of your work.

Dress comfortably and be prepared to move.
