Figure A awakens to find himself compelled by unknown forces to build a machine on the stage, whilst Figures B, C, and D prod, discourage, and attempt to drive him mad…because they believe it is the only way for him to accomplish his goal. Contraption mines the intersection between creativity and madness by looking through the history of inventors, and asking if insanity is the common ingredient among all great innovators.
