ATTN: GOOD ARTISTS & GREAT COMMUNICATORS

this is an AUDITION NOTICE and/or a CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS seeking

BRAVE ARTISTS (of any discipline) to

WRITE, PERFORM and PLAY-fight with

THE ARROW, a new, experimental (ugh) theater-show

created by KURT CHIANG & LILY MOONEY &

produced by THE NEO-FUTURISTS.

(the arrow is a fresh neo-futurist mess-around: a show that subjects written true stories to spontaneous interventions. A spirited response to live lit, to English class, to the hero’s journey, to book clubs– The Arrow unravels & reweaves stories and -tellers in the hope of finding something new, more honest and more live.)

ALL AUDITION SLOTS ARE NOW FULL.

But we still want your name and writing in our warm, cozy files.

To submit yourself for future consideration:

– email [thearrow@neofuturists.org] with your name, relevant experience and a resumé.

– include a writing sample based on the prompt (please attach as a pdf).

performers cast in the show will receive a stipend for their work.

PROMPT:

Write at least 1 page of a short essay that ricochets off the following text.

“I had never known what I was like until I stopped smoking, by which time there was hell to pay for it. When the haze cleared over the charred landscape, the person I had always assumed to be behind the smoke was revealed to be a tinny weights-and-balances apparatus, rapidly disassembling on contact with oxygen.”

(—excerpt from “Days,” by Deborah Eisenberg.)

In your essay, feel free to be aggressive, supportive, absurd, personal, political, meditative or terrible. Essays need not be true, but must be honest.
