A message from Artistic Director Kurt Chiang –

December 2nd, 2016 was the 28th birthday of Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind. Two days before, we were surprised to learn that the creator of Too Much Light does not intend to renew our license to perform our works of Neo-Futurism within the constraints of that show’s 30 Plays in 60 Minutes.
While The Neo-Futurists will cease our production of Too Much Light, I want to be clear that our Ensemble will continue to produce Neo-Futurist work, as we always have, at our regularly scheduled weekend timeslots, here at our theater. We’ll still be at 5153 North Ashland Avenue, Friday and Saturdays at 11:30pm and Sunday at 7pm, 50 weeks of the year.

We’ll be starting performances right off the bat in 2017. As we prepare to forge ahead with our current identity and way of working, sans the title Too Much Light…, we need your support.

We’re reopening Can’t Stop//Won’t Stop, the fundraising campaign we completed this fall. Today, that phrase means a whole lot more to us. You’ll set up a personal profile, through which you can tell your story about what the Neos mean to you. Whether you’re miles away asking your friends for support, or you’re in the theater with us come January, we know we can do great things with our incredible fans and audiences by our side.

During the first run of Can’t Stop//Won’t Stop, we surpassed our ambitious goal and raised a total of $22,000. In honor of this 28th birthday, we want to raise $28,000 by the end of the year. We hope you’ll help us reach $50,000 by December 31st with a tax-deductible donation– $28, $280, $2,800 and everything in between—as we charge forward into the new year.

Since receiving this jarring news, we’ve been astounded and humbled by the flood of cheerleading that has come from all of you, from all over the country. Our company is led and driven by the entire Neo-Futurist ensemble, as well as myself, the staff and the board. Just as importantly, it’s fueled by your enthusiasm and dedication. We’re enormously grateful for your continued support.
